The Ministry of Education in Anambra State has refuted claims circulating in certain media outlets regarding Governor Soludo’s purported ban on extra-mural classes and the imposition of a specific dismissal time for schools.
In response to these reports, Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, denounced the misinformation, labeling it as a misquote and a distortion of the facts. She clarified that her press statement never mentioned any prohibition of extra-mural classes or the establishment of specific dismissal times for schools.
Expressing bewilderment at how such misinformation was disseminated, Commissioner Chuma-Udeh urged members of the press to prioritize accurate and factual reporting, devoid of any biases or misconceptions.
She explained that the confusion stemmed from a statement made during a press interview, where she referenced the United Nations’ recommended dismissal time for schools. Additionally, she reiterated the adoption of the Progressive Child Centered Education model in Nigeria, as advocated by educational theorist John Dewey.
The Ministry of Education emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and clarity in disseminating information to the public, urging media professionals to exercise diligence and accuracy in their reporting practices.
