Ahmed Abdul Ningi was born on April 20, 1960, in Bauchi State, Nigeria. He completed his early education at Ningi East Primary School and Government Secondary School, Misau. He attended a 2-year pre-degree program at the Bauchi College of Art and Science.

Ningi began his career after he was appointed by Bauchi State Government as a Social welfare officer in 1984. Thereafter, he was promoted to Secretary of the Bauchi Rent Tribunal before he became a supervisor at First Bank of Nigeria. In 1992, he served as a Senior Administrative officer at Hi-Tech before he became the Chairman and Chief Executive of NAJ Resources Ltd., Bauchi in 1995.

Ningi has served as a two-time Member of Representatives representing Ningi Federal Constituency in the National Assembly. During his tenure, he was the House Majority Leader and Chairman House Committee on Solid Minerals, Teacher Education, and NAFDAC. He has also served as Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs and Chairman Ad-hoc Committee on Niger Delta Crisis.

Presently, Ningi is serving his second term as a Senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly. He has also served as a Deputy Majority Leader of the Nigerian Senate.
