The victory not only silenced critics but also provided a substantial financial boost to the club. On Sunday, the mood was further lifted when Leeds United, their traditional rivals, lost in the Championship play-off final.
Despite the jubilant weekend, the focus for manager Erik ten Hag remains on his eighth-place finish in the Premier League, which will weigh heavily in the season’s evaluations by Ineos, the club’s owner.
Nevertheless, ten Hag might argue his case by highlighting the financial benefits he secured for United.
Winning the FA Cup awarded United £2 million, double the amount they would have received as runners-up.
Additionally, their victory secured them a spot in the Europa League, bringing further financial incentives.
Participation in the Europa League is expected to yield a guaranteed €4.31 million. Each win in the league phase is worth €450,000 and draws bring in €150,000. Even a modest performance could add approximately €2 million in prize money.
Beyond the Europa League earnings, Manchester United will host at least four additional home matches at Old Trafford.
According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, the club earns about £3.3 million in pure profit per home match day, leading to an additional £13.2 million in revenue.
